Among the many challenges faced by public housing residents, we have found poor health to be one of the most consequential. For low-income families, poor health has a big impact on school attendance, employment prospects, job performance, and can easily result in serious medical debt. For families in need, health problems can set off a chain of events that exacerbate the barriers to overcoming poverty.

The National Center for Health Care for Public Housing Residents offers technical assistance and resources to improve the capacity of health centers, increase access to health care and help eliminate health disparities. The National Center targets its efforts to support federally-funded Public Housing Primary Care (PHPC) health centers and other safety net providers to enhance health care delivery for the 6.7 million residents of public and assisted housing.
